What determines the right location for a website, application, or business?

Most people simply pick the location closest to them, which is fair.

Some choose multiple locations and serve their content from the location closest to the individual visitor, which is also fair.

However, that tends to be more complex than most websites, applications, or businesses would need.

More often than not, one main location is sufficient, but that also varies depending on the application.

Stock trading software designed to trade US stocks needs to be in NYC proper; a game server requires minimal latency; and so on...

On the other hand, a static website isn't going to feel too different by adding an extra 50ms or so.

Latency isn't the only reason to consider location choices for hosting your website, application, or business, though...
